In Spanish this year we read two books each with their own unit with new vocabulary, grammar, and geography.
The Story of El Ekeko takes place in Bolivia and includes many interesting and unique traditions in Bolivia. This story takes place around a special Bolivian festival called Allisitas. Where people buy mini replicas of things such as footballs, or food, and more in the markets. They give them to people as gifts and the legend says that if you give them to the ekeko he will turn them into real things. And that is exactly what happened in the book.
The story of Testigo starts in Guatamala with a boy named Bryan whos friends and family live in-fear of gang violence. And one friend named Allan becomes victim to it. His mission is to escape his dangerous town and live with is mother in Michigan in the United States. He mast cross two borderes, and all of Mexico without being caught. This kind of immigration happens all the time with the help of coyotes who can also be responsible for exploitation, human trafficking and abandonment. It is risky for anyone to trust a coyote and risky to cross not just one but two borders especially a solo 14 year old boy. |

There is still a lot left to learn which I will continue to do so that i can use my skills to travel and understand the language of many places. I have never been able to read, write, or speck to this extent of Spanish ever before and it is exciting to see myself learning something very useful and fun.
