Electro Magnetics
In this project we learned about atoms, electricity, and how they work to create the all so important electromagnetic that hold the very fabric of this word together. To demonstrate our learning we built our own electromagnet devices. I built a speaker using copper coils, magnets, audio wire and a cup. The signal from the phone travels though the audio cable which ends are connected to the copper wire terminals, the current flows through the copper coil rapped around the cup. To activate the speaker we place neodymium magnets close to the coil and...music. This uses electromagnetic because the magnetism between the copper and the magnet allows the sound to vibrate the cup just enough for it to produce the slight whisper of Soulja boy.
Electric Lemon
I created a battery out of 4 materials. First i used a lemon to conduct the electricity. I used copper wire as the cathode which is where the current out of the lemon is, The anode is the zinc nail which puts the current into the device. Then i attached fairy lights to each of the positive and negative materials.

Social Media Satire Rube Goldberg Machine
During this project we went through many steps to conclude by constructing a 6 step machine that comments on some sort of issue. we started with brainstorming and many drafts, we learned about satire and about physics used in chain reaction machines, We learned about the 6 simple machines that we had to include in our rubes, inclined plane, lever, wedge, wheel and axle, pulley and screw. I choose to build my machine around social media and the way it portrays unrealistic beauty standards.
Reflection:
During this project i learned that Energy cannot be created or destroyed, the same amount of energy will be on our planet it is just transferred from one object to another through pushes, and pulls, and gravity, other forces, and we can see these especially in our 6 simple machines. These machines allow us to conserve energy by making tasks exert less energy. For example an incline plane can be used to walk up to a place 10ft tall, more easily than it would be to try to hop a 10 foot wall. This is demonstrated in my rube in all the steps but especially in the pulley at the very beginning, just my tripping a wire the pulley will disengage and the poster automatically falls this reaction conserves energy.
Simple machines are the basics for which most machines elaborate on; they consist of inclined planes, levers, wedges, wheel and axle, pulley and screw. These are important because we use them everyday, even without noticing but they make life easier by conserving energy. I use the simple machines all throughout my project starting with a pulley and then ending with a lever. The challenge stop that I used is a time warp box. I had a ball travel through a mystery box so that it stayed within the box for about 10 seconds. I used a lot more simple machines within the box that you can't see, I used a lot of inclined planes and especially the force of gravity.
My greatest takeaway from this project is about the conservation of energy and i loved learning that the energy of our plant cannot be created or destroyed, now i can think about how my everyday actions, even just writing this reflection are transferring energy. My greatest challenge was finishing and executing my machine. At the beginning of this project i had a clear vision of how i wanted to use social media, and i also have a great drawing of how i wanted my rube to work, as i began to build i realized it was much more challenging, from having the correct materials, to having steps of my rube not working together. To overcome this i had to do two things, i had to adapt to the materials i did have and second i had to let go of my expectations because I realized it wasn't working how i wanted it to, so another great takeaway is how to adapt to what you have to work with. My greatest strength was my passion at the beginning of this project, my rough draft reflects this because it is well thought out and detailed and I included everything I needed to, it is what I am most proud of.

Photographs Of Physics
Overveiw:
During this Photographs of the Physics project we learned and applied knowledge about waves, and how they act. The main concepts of waves are Reflection, refraction, and color. We did two projects to show our knowledge of these, the first was we created pinhole cameras and took pictures on photographic paper and second we took pictures of the beauty of light waves in physics.

Final Project:
The physics represented in this photograph is Refraction. Refraction happens when light changes flows from one medium to another and causes characteristics of the wave to change. You can see this happening on the right and left sides of the sun. The way that this works is that the light from the sun travels through clouds that are particularly cold at an angle of 22 degrees, this allows us to see a spectrum of colors as if the cold clouds also called cloud crystals act as a prism. They are called Cloud crystals for a very important reason, these clouds are so cold that they are made of crystals, these crystals have identical interfacial angles, like a prism. Both the Sun dogs and the physics are beautiful. |
Reflection:
My Greatest strength in this project was determination. With other classes and projects and in the past my greatest challenge has been procrastination and my interest for this project gave me motivation to get the project done, and done well. While learning about the material I was interested but not yet fully inspired, once we began working on our pinhole cameras I became invested in the work and this investment allowed me to get quality work turned in on time.
The biggest obstacle for me was being unprepared, this was because my goal was to build a pinhole camera out of legos, but half way through building it I realized that there where not enough pieces to finish, also I had to get materials for my developer for the pinhole camera, and I didnt get the final picture until a couple days before it was due which seemed a bit late. The way I overcame these situations was simple I just took the time to redo, or just do it, and in the end everything turned out great. In the future I will plan before so that I do not have to do things last minute. I will make sure I have all of the materials.
The most important thing I took away from this project as well as an interest for physics is knowledge of refraction. I have learned about refraction before but I liked learning about how it works in nature. You can see this in my image of the sun dogs because ontop of learning about how light and refraction works I got to learn about beautiful phenomena in nature and this made the whole project very enjoyable.
I grew as a scientist because this project has given me more appreciation for science through allowing me to apply it to beautiful things. I will now look at things differently through a more scientific view, I will appreciate rainbows and the way things refract I think about the way I look at everything differently, like when i look at something as simple as myself in the mirror I think bout how reflection works, or something as simple as my straw in a glass of water, or how my red wall is actually every color except for red.
I feel that I did very well with this project because of the amount of effort that I put into it.I think that my final project ended up being super interesting and I like the picture that I took good picture.I think that my enjoyment for this project allowed me to do work that I am proud of.
