The Social Spiral- in partner with physics.
For the satire portion of this project we were prompted to create a piece of satire that commented on our issue, mine is the issue of how social media portrays unrealistic beauty standards. We also includes satire throughout a rube gold berg machine, in the end my rube changed a mirror to say "I am Ugly" too "I am enough" This felt like a grate conclusion to the rest of my work. We learned about what satire is, and how it is used, we looked at examples and took quizzes to check for our understanding, and then finally created our own. This part of the project was very engaging and i have a new interest in this type of art, writing, reading, and creation.
My satirical art is called The Social Spiral. It is targeting social media's beauty standards. The message is how there is no such thing as physical perfection because it can look different for everyone, it shows how negative it makes people feel because they do not look like the people social media models. I used hyperbole by making it look like there is a picture within the picture to exaggerate the “spiral”. I also used color to exaggerate the emotions of every person. The other satirical device I use is parody because not only is it picture within picture it is social media post within post and it is a parody of an instagram post.
The most important thing I learned throughout this project is the different ways to use satire because it can be powerful used in art, writing, conversations, and even machines. Learning these things will be helpful for my future because I would like to incorporate them into stories that I write and art that I do so that people can feel something when reading or viewing. In my final project I incorporate my final satire piece and bits of satire throughout the rube. This shows that i know how to use it and the amount that i included in my project shows that i actually find it quite interesting.
When talking to the people around us we use satire without even realizing it, it also fills our canvases, and books and television. In my opinion the most powerful satire uses emotions to their advantage so the bigger the emotion the more effective the satire is, so if you are making a funny piece you have to make someone laugh, and if you're making a sad piece you have to make someone contemplate life. The example of satire that i found at the beginning of this project is a song that everyone knows. Pumped up Kicks this song uses juxtaposition to accentuate the satire with a cheerful beat and dark lyrics this song comments on school shootings in a very effective way because once again everybody knows this song, next time listen to it closer and think about how the song's style affects you.
I give myself an 8 because this transiting into in person and at home learning has been a challenge because I can't bring my materials into school. I think that the satire portion of this project has been my strength from the brainstorming, to the rough drafts, to the execution the satire has been well thought out. I give myself this score because it is my favorite accomplishment from this project because first I have learned how to use satire and because I executed it well with my final art project and also throughout my rube. I think that if you want your satire to be effective people have to want to see it, so making my art piece more artistic and beautiful would have been helpful to draw people to it and it may have a deeper effect. With my new found interest in this style i will try to incorporate it into my creative writing elective and also if i choose to make art in the future i will definitely include satire into it.

Imperialism
In this project we studied the effects of Imperialism. We looked into the depths of cultual and economic changes. I specificaly focused my intrest into the Herero Genocide. I used primary and secondary sources to peace apart the perspectives of the Herero and the German Colonizers.
